The Applied Mechanics and Systems Research Laboratory (AMSRL) is a research and technological development lab for the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MHESR). AMSRL functions within Tunisia Polytechnic School (TPS), which is part of the University of Carthage.
The origin of AMSRL goes back to the simultaneous and coordinated creation and growth of two research groups: one at the National Engineering School of Tunis (ENIT) and the other at TPS. Both groups continued to develop their coordinated activity between these two structures until 2003 when the decision was made to merge the two groups with minor changes in the list of their respective members. The merged lab acquired the status of a Research Laboratory under code LR03ES06 and was named "Applied Mechanics and Systems Research Laboratory".
The founding members of AMSRL are Professors Hichem Smaoui of ENIT and Sami El-Borgi of TPS. Professor Smaoui and his co-workers left the AMSRL laboratory in 2010 to create their own laboratory at the National Engineering School of Tunis.
The overall objective of AMSRL is to contribute to the state of the art on forefront scientific and technological subjects by developing methodologies, models, and new products and by improving existing methods in the areas of:
o Mechanics,
o Construction,
o New materials,
o Systems
o and closely related disciplines.
In addition, more interest will be focused on mastering new technologies.
The specific objectives of AMSRL are to:
o Identify and solve research problems and technical difficulties that arise
in the social-economical world and which have strong economic impact. Hence,
contributing to the implementation of research results and technology transfer.
o Build scientific cooperation with international research institutes and solicit
national and international funds to support these exchanges.
o Establish a teamwork spirit and support among members of the laboratory and
educate young researchers about the code of scientific ethics.
o Continue building new skills in forefront areas especially those with lack
of nationwide specialists. This is accomplished by training through research
programs.
